Sisters and Brothers in Christ

In my Protestant upbringing I was taught to believe in the Resurrection as a historical event. That’s fine, however, that was where my Protestant training stopped concerning Resurrection. It was kind of like trying to go on a walking trip with one foot nailed to the floor – you don’t really get to see much scenery that way.

Plus there are people like St. Paul who comment upon Resurrection as though it is something dynamic and evolving. At the Great Vigil we heard Paul say in Romans, "Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life."

Listening to Biblical voices, The Book of Common Prayer (especially the Baptismal Covenant), and theologians throughout history and contemporary with today I discovered that the Resurrection of Jesus touched off an explosion of possibility. The possibility of walking a new life where the scenery is compassion instead of violence, generosity instead of greed, and love instead of hate.

Resurrection is dynamic and happens with every breath you and I take. Resurrection is a journey. It is a "walk in newness of life." As Christians Resurrection is our Way of living. What scenery do you see on your walk in this newness of life?

Creation yearns for the transformative power of becoming. Being mindful and in remembrance of Resurrection we carry that dynamic, transforming power of God’s grace with us each step of the Way. Carry Resurrection in your heart, mind, soul, and body and marvel at how the scenery changes around you.
